Meet the Pressed In Time Team

Devon Simone

How did you start Pressed In Time? I’ve always had an appreciation for art and nature. Growing up, I spent a lot of time outdoors exploring and learning about the local flora and fauna. My family used to catalogue their gardens and press flowers from their travels around the world. With the help of my grandmother and aunt, I learned to press flowers in books. When I wasn’t outside, you would find me in my “craft corner” wearing one of my Dad’s oversized dress shirts as a smock.

Fast forward to 2019, I had grown into my smock and decided to create my own wood flower press. After having so much fun, and knowing my wedding was coming up, I kept experimenting with pressing and was incredibly pleased with the results.

Today, those early moments with my family and creating my own flower presses led me to establish 'Pressed In Time,'  where we make floral keepsakes for customers all across Canada.

What’s the most inspiring part of your job? All of it! From taking in beautiful flowers to pressing and designing the final pieces, I love creating keepsakes that help people remember their special moments and loved ones. It's a privilege to be a part of such meaningful moments in people's lives.

What else do you do for work or school and how did you become a part of the team? I’m a nurse by day and also the Studio Manager by day!

I started following Pressed In Time on Instagram a long time ago and followed for that “one day” when I got married! Devon posted she was hiring and I took a shot to apply. I started as a Flower Preservation Specialist and became Studio Manager this season.

What’s the most inspiring part of your job? I love getting to be part of someone’s special day! I think it’s so cool to see a part of their story and turn their flowers into forever keepsakes. Watching or seeing people’s reactions to their once alive flowers now preserved forever is magical! On the other end, when we do memorial pieces, I love that we get to create that beautiful memory for someone.

What’s your hidden talent? I’m the master of rebuilding sad or broken boutonniéres! I’m also Pressed In Time’s very own private investigator. Whenever someone needs help finding or solving something, they turn to me. Whether it’s sourcing a new product or reading an illegible hand-written note, Jen is on the case!

What else do you do for work or school and how did you become a part of the team? I previously worked as a supply Educational Assistant but had been a stay-at-home mom for 6 years.

I was looking to return to work, when a friend shared Pressed In Time’s “We’re Hiring” post. On a whim, I applied and call it fate but at the end of last summer I was asked to join the team! This job and work has been a huge gift to me. I’m using my creativity, never get bored, and work with some of the loveliest and most supportive ladies – all while helping earn some extra money for my family!

What’s the most inspiring part of your job? Hard to pick one thing! I love meeting the newlyweds and seeing what colour combos and unique textures they chose when they drop off their bouquets on Mondays! I also deeply appreciate the families who entrust us with their loved one’s floral tributes and allow us to create memorials for their families. Lastly, the team makes this the best job I’ve ever had.

What’s your hidden talent? In the shop, my hidden talent is mispronouncing flower names! In life, my hidden talent is being able to ride a unicycle.

What else do you do for work or school and how did you become a part of the team? By night, I’m a full-time Primary Care Paramedic. In between shifts, I spend my time creating beautiful pieces at the studio and am enjoying every minute of it.

I immediately fell in love with flower pressing after attending one of the many workshops run over the fall/winter. At the time, I was looking to find a hobby to help me wind down from my busy schedule, however things “flourished” from there. Next thing I knew, I was joining the Presstie Crew!

What’s the most inspiring part of your job? I love building pieces and watching them come back to life. There is something so humbling about preserving a long-lasting memory for someone they can hold onto for years to come.

What’s your hidden talent? Trick of all trades is my hidden talent. I’ve always been a fast learner and enjoy trying new things. You’ll find me dabbling in all areas of the studio and jumping in where necessary to complete ongoing projects.
