Meet the Pressed In Time Team

Devon Elcomb

How did you start Pressed In Time? I’ve always had an appreciation for art and nature. Growing up, I spent a lot of time outdoors exploring and learning about the local flora and fauna. My family used to catalogue their gardens and press flowers from their travels around the world. With the help of my grandmother and aunt, I learned to press flowers in books. When I wasn’t outside, you would find me in my “craft corner” wearing one of my Dad’s oversized dress shirts as a smock.

Fast forward to 2019, I had grown into my smock and decided to create my own wood flower press. After having so much fun, and knowing my wedding was coming up, I kept experimenting with pressing and was incredibly pleased with the results.

Today, those early moments with my family and creating my own flower presses led me to establish 'Pressed In Time,'  where we make floral keepsakes for customers all across Canada.

What’s the most inspiring part of your job? All of it! From taking in beautiful flowers to pressing and designing the final pieces, I love creating keepsakes that help people remember their special moments and loved ones. It's a privilege to be a part of such meaningful moments in people's lives.

What else do you do for work or school and how did you become a part of the team?

I have an educational background in graphic design and office administration, so I’m all about mixing creativity with organization! I’m passionate about plants, nature, and also keeping things neat and structured. I joined the team to bring my love for design and efficiency into a role where I can thrive and make an impact!

What’s the most inspiring part of your job?

What inspires me most is the chance to work hands-on with flowers and create something truly personal. Each piece tells a story, and I love being part of that memory-making process.

What’s your hidden talent?

My hidden talent is my green thumb! I love growing tropical house plants and tending to my garden. Gardening has taught me to slow down, pay attention, and trust the process. I’ve found that the same mindset helps me stay focused, solve problems calmly, and bring a thoughtful approach to everything I do. It’s also a fun way I stay connected to nature and recharge my creative energy

What else do you do for work or school and how did you become a part of the team?

I went to school for fine art and art history, which gave me a strong foundation in creative expression and visual storytelling. After graduating, I naturally gravitated toward life as a freelance artist—it gave me the freedom to explore different mediums and work on projects that really spoke to me. I found my way to Pressed in Time through some amazing mutual friends and a shared passion for art and nature, it felt like such an organic fit.

What’s the most inspiring part of your job?

What I love most is seeing how each bouquet tells a different story. Every couple brings their own unique style and energy to their wedding day, and it’s so fun to see that reflected in their flowers. For memorial pieces, it’s incredibly meaningful to be trusted with something so personal.

What’s your hidden talent?

Honestly, being a bit of a jack of all trades!

I love learning new skills and picking up random hobbies, whether it’s sewing, painting, wood burning, or figuring something out on the fly. I might not be an expert in everything, but I can usually find a way to make it work. It definitely keeps life interesting!
